What Minimax H3 Recast Does Differently
This is a cast substitution pass over a clip that is already complete — the parts that work are left untouched, and only the performers on screen are replaced.
- Recasting applied to locked footageHand the tool a clip you have already shot along with a set of portraits, and those faces take over the roles on screen rather than a new scene being generated.
- Each face stays with its roleLine your portraits up in the same left-to-right order the performers appear, and that pairing survives every cut the editor made.
- Every performance beat comes from your clipGlances, pauses, timing, practical lighting and camera movement are all inherited from the source; the faces and their wardrobe arrive from the images you supply.

Minimax H3 Recast Feature Breakdown
The details that matter: a cast change performed without disturbing the acting, the edit, the audio or the framing you already shot.
Four roles, mapped left to right
You can replace as many as four performers; each upload claims a role in the sequence you define and keeps it across every shot that person appears in.
Written prompts can re-map the cast
When screen order is not the pairing you want, a text instruction tells the engine which portrait should become which performer.
Acting untouched, identities replaced
No performance data is regenerated — timing, expression, practical light and lens movement are read straight from the source, while faces and clothing are drawn from your references.
Edit rhythm and audio survive intact
Your cut points and the soundtrack beneath them are preserved, so the deliverable reads as the same film with different performers rather than a remake.
Low-cost preview, full-resolution delivery
Screen the pairing with an inexpensive low-resolution render first, then pay for the 1080p master; cost scales with how long your clip runs.
Wardrobe and hair arrive with the photo
A reference that shows more than a face carries its hairstyle and clothing into the result; half-body framing transfers them far more reliably than a tight head shot.
Minimax H3 Recast: Questions Answered
Straight answers about cast swapping, clip limits, reference photos and resolution.
What exactly does this tool do?
It performs a substitution rather than generating video from scratch: the portraits you supply replace the performers already in your clip, while movement, framing, cut points and audio are all inherited from the original file.
What length should my source clip be?
Between 5 and 30 seconds in total, and no single shot longer than 15 seconds. Split longer material before you upload, because the output returns at exactly the duration you submitted.
How many performers can be swapped, and in which order?
Up to four, and each one needs a separate portrait. Default behaviour maps them onto the leads in the order they appear on screen, so sort your uploads accordingly — or override the mapping with a written prompt.
Which reference photos give the best results?
One sharp, evenly lit, front-facing portrait per person. Half-body shots carry hairstyle and clothing across more faithfully than a tight head crop, and you should avoid sunglasses, hats, covered faces, group photos, heavy filters or blur.
Do I need 768p, 1080p, or both?
Both, in that order. Confirm the pairing on a cheap low-resolution render, then commit to the 1080p master. Since cost follows clip length, the first pass is the affordable way to catch a mismatch.
When is this the wrong tool for the job?
It cannot change the footage itself — different movement, different camera work or a different location all have to come from your source. Results also weaken with dense crowds, distant or tiny faces, fast motion, and objects crossing the face after a hard cut; across long takes, or when someone turns to profile, the likeness may drift back toward the original performer.
